MY 2007 BMW F800ST MOTORCYCLE'S ENGINE IS CUTTING OUT WHILE THE BIKE IS IN MOTION. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 5MPH AND AS GREAT AS 60MPH. THE PROBLEM GENERALLY OCCURS WHEN DOWN SHIFTING OR COMPLETELY CLOSING THE THROTTLE AFTER THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS AT TEMPERATURE AND HAS BEEN RIDDEN AT HIGH THROTTLE SETTINGS. I GENERALLY BEGIN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AFTER RIDING BETWEEN 50-85 MILES. THEN MY ENGINE WILL STALL UNPREDICTABLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME I RIDE THAT DAY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS WHEN APPROACHING CORNERS, …

Owner report 10470251 · 2012-08-11 (August 11, 2012)
THE PLASTIC MOUNTING PLATE HOLDING THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT DEVELOPED A HAIRLINE CRACK. THIS CRACK ALLOWED FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE TANK UNCONTROLLED, WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, WHERE A GAS WATER HEATER NEARBY COULD HAVE IGNITED THE FUMES. THIS CRACK WAS NOT CAUSED BY ANY CONTACT OR PRESSURE FROM ANY OTHER COMPONENT OF THE MOTORCYCLE AS IT IS PROTECTED BENEATH THE SEAT AND A SUBSTANTIAL RECESS IN THE FUEL TANK. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THAT THEY REPLACE AS MANY AS TWO OF THESE CRACK…
