THE CAR MOVES TO NEUTRAL GEAR WHILE IN MOTION. IT HAS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH AND MORE OFTEN WHILE MAKING TURNS AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS. THUS PUTTING THE DRIVER IN EXTREME HARMS WAY. THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE INSTANTLY MOVED TO DRIVE MODE TO ACCELERATE OUT OF THE RISKY IMPACT SITUATION. THE PROBLEM WAS DEMONSTRATED TO AND REPLICATED BY THE DEALERSHIP. Car was being driven on a highway going around a turn and message for “ATV Service” appeared. Shortly after power to the steering wheel and lost jerked the car and came back. All electric lighting flickered and several other messages for service engine and transmission appeared.

Was driving my 2017 Giulia on a busy interstate, and everything was perfectly fine until 3 error messages popped up: service engine, service electronic throttle control, start/stop unavailable. Then the engine cuts off and the car shifted into N gear. It was a very horrifying experience as the semi-truck behind me almost crashed into me since my car lost power. Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my vehicle. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS 2018 ALFA ROMEO GUILIA USED. I WAS NOT TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM WARNING, AND I BELIEVED I HAD AT LEAST 20-25 MILES OF FUEL REMAINING. I MAY HAVE MISCALCULATED MY MILEAGE, BUT IN ANY EVENT, I RAN OUT OF FUEL (I WAS CLOSE TO A GAS STATION AS WAS ABLE TO GET THE FUEL AND START THE CAR WITHIN 20 MINUTES OVERALL).
